The Poolside Pass S2 E10

Back on The Poolside Pass with Jamie Fowler:

I think this next interview was actually done in the same week as the Le Run Down one, it was a busy week! This was much more focused on our coaching life during the ISL bubble in Budapest. One important take-away for me from this was that it reminded me just how grateful I was to be on deck coaching. Of course, coaching an ISL team is an amazing opportunity any time, but I believe everyone involved felt especially fortunate to be able to live our lives somewhat normally during the Covid-19 pandemic.

This was a bit of a follow-up episode to my original interview with Jamie Fowler for S1 E8 of the same podcast, which was recorded right at the start of the pandemic, while I was self-isolating in Chamonix, France.

CSCA

On June 29th, 2020 I did a presentation for the Canadian Swim Coaches Association as an introduction to Energy Systems. The PDF’s from the talk are available here, and the talk is available at the CSCA online video library (login required).

This was part of a great initiative by CSCA that provided a lot of videos available live and after the fact for Canadian coaches during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Fun fact: I did this presentation from my camper next to Lake Superior, ON!

Le Run Down Episode 57.

During the beginning of our time on Margaret Island in Budapest I finally connected with Justin Pugliese host of the Montréal based Le Run Down podcast. I was pretty pumped to be asked to do this interview with Justin as it was a much more personal one for me, exploring a totally different aspect of my life than most interviews as we focused on how I’ve managed 2020 with Covid-19 restrictions, what the year has looked like for me, and how I manage to squeeze in training for ultra marathons around everything else.

The Poolside Pass S1 E8

In April 2020 I was featured on an episode of The Poolside Pass with host Jamie Fowler:

In episode 8 I spoke to Tom Rushton, coach with Energy Standard Swim Team. Tom spoke about his background in coaching, and his tips for working with elite swimmers. Tom also spoke about the importance of efficiency at all levels of the sport.

"For any of the strokes, I always like to see again how the water moves around their body and what you can do to eliminate any extra waves or extra splash"

I found this part of the discussion the most interesting as I always knew how important efficiency was but to hear Tom speak about swimmers moving through the water in the way he did was a great new perspective, talking about how the water moves around the body and minimising waves. This is certainly something coaches should consider when developing stroke technique.

ISL Podcast Match 6 review.

Recorded after the fact, I think these multi-person coaching focused match reviews are kind of a great idea. I sat in with Ivan Grigorishin (ISL), Byron MacDonald (Toronto Titans), Mads Hansen (NY Breakers), and Matteo Giunta (Aqua Centurions). Here we go over some selected races from ISL Match 6 - which was the first match after our two week training break, and the first one we did since the above interview with Jamie from The Poolside Pass.

Swim Coaches Base

This episode of Ritter Sports Performance (now called Swim Coaches Base) originally aired in January 2018. The format is fairly formulaic but was good to connect with host Chris Ritter.

“You’re only limited by what you think you’re limited by.”
